Features and Enhancements in HyWorks v3.6
This release notes section highlights the new features and improvements introduced in HyWorks v3.4-SP2.
HyWorks Enhancements and Features
Master Pool
HyWorks v3.6 features a pool of pools to ensure higher scalability and distributed management. A master pool feature has been integrated into HyWorks for larger deployments. This feature is currently recommended for deployment in "Active-active multi-node cluster with SQL managed database high-availability" and is available only for the following features:
-
On-Login Personal Desktops.
-
Desktop pools from different providers.
Not supported with:
-
Shared hosted desktop pools.
-
On-connect or permanent desktop pools.
User Experience Enhancement via Resource Utilization Management
HyWorks Controller centrally manages desktop resource policies and implements them using the Accops Policy Engine. The administrator can define policies to utilize systems efficiently. The optimization condition can be an adaptive system or an adaptive user, where resource consumption on the system, the user, or both can be evaluated to apply remediation actions in place. - System thresholds to control overall system performance
- User and process-based thresholds
The following types of optimization actions can be done:
-
Block new process execution.
-
Limit Process Resource (CPU/RAM) Utilization.
-
Reduce Process Priority.
-
Release Process Memory.
-
Suspend Processes on session disconnect.
Integration of OpenStack (Phase-1)
The phase-1 integration is done in HyWorks v3.6 with the following high-level supported and not supported use cases:
-
HyWorks-based deployments (provisioned/ non-provisioned) are supported.
-
HyLabs-based deliveries are not supported.
-
Automatic Power Management (Capacity Planning is not supported)
Improved support for Proxmox
Proxmox integration is enhanced with the following improvements:
-
HyLabs Support
-
Deployment Settings Improvisations
-
Inherit from Gold Master or Specify
-
Best host and storage selection
-
Single Sign-on using Certificate-based logon
HyWorks v3.6 has a feature integration that enables certificate-based login into configured virtual desktop machines without a password. The feature is currently termed as SSO (Single Sign-on). The feature presently has the following supported configurations: - Delivered with RHEL-based shared hosted desktops.
- Supported with Active Directory Server only.
Live IP Feature
In some environments, connectors (Nutanix) reported multiple IP addresses for a desktop VM, but some IPs were actually not available on the VM. HyWorks was using unavailable IP addresses (when picking randomly), resulting in functional failures.
- A new feature (Controlled from the advanced settings) has been provided to detect and use the Live IP address only.
Support for Oracle User Directory
Oracle User Directory can be added to an OpenLDAP-type authentication server to authenticate and authorize users.
Enhancements
-
Enhanced logic for shutting down virtual machines post user logout: This was enhanced to get support for some cases where VMs were assigned to virtual machines but were not getting shut down as the user was not accessing them.
-
Optimizations and bug fixes around user session management: Multiple enhancements and bug fixes have been made to ensure a precise and valid list of users on the HyWorks Controller Management Console.
Management Console Optimization
-
The Personal Desktop page has optimizations to support large deployments, including new filters for customization status, assigned client, etc.
-
The Registered Users page is optimized.
Releases of VM Scale Booster, Scheduler, and Action Processor:
-
Option to install in the selected directory.
-
v3.6 is compatible with and supports the latest features and enhancements.
HyLabs:
Multi-time zone support
When working from a different timezone than the HyWorks/HyLabs server, the administrator or user will be shown the reservation times, and everything will be according to their timezone. Also, during reservation scheduling, a reservation (shown in the user's local timezone) will be appropriately scheduled on the server. Additionally, users will be shown an option to choose and save their timezone rather than detecting the local timezone from the browser.
HyLabs with Multi-Org Deployment Support
Limited support is needed to make HyLabs compatible with a multi-organization environment.
