Service Config

Configure HyWorks Controller's discovery settings and RDP proxy server settings from Settings > General > Advance Config.

The Discovery settings define the discovery mechanism of the HyWorks Controller by the HyWorks Clients. The RDP Proxy Server in the HyWorks Controller provides the mechanism to connect to desktops or applications over the internet, where devices do not have direct access to desktops but can connect to the HyWorks Controller using its public IP.

Discovery Settings

The Discovery settings define the discovery mechanism of the HyWorks Controller by the HyWorks Clients. Though the HyWorks Controller is automatically discoverable, it is also possible to configure the HyWorks Controller on devices manually by providing the appropriate IP/Hostname and Port information.

HyWorks Controller broadcasts its information on the network port 39003 (default) for detecting the HyWorks Controller automatically.

HyWorks clients are constantly listening for the information broadcasted on port 39003. Once this broadcast is received by the devices, the HyWorks client will start communicating with the HyWorks Controller.

This is an ideal deployment scenario, where the devices can communicate directly with the HyWorks Controller and broadcasts are not blocked. However, in cases of connection over the internet or with the firewall in between, the HyWorks Controller should be configured manually, since the broadcasting mechanism cannot be used.

Default Configuration

By default, the Discovery Settings are stopped and the broadcasting is disabled. However, if needed, the Administrator can enable broadcasting.

Steps to Start Broadcasting

  1. Navigate to Settings > General > Advance Settings.

  2. Search for the setting Controller discovery.

  3. Click Edit and set the value as True to enable controller broadcasting.

  4. Click Save to save the settings.

The settings will be saved and will start the broadcasting by the Controller, as per the configurations.

Steps to Stop Broadcasting

If broadcasting is enabled, then it can be stopped using the same process used to start the broadcasting:

  1. Navigate to Settings > General > Advance Settings.

  2. Search for setting Controller discovery.

  3. Click Edit and set the value as False to disable controller broadcasting.

  4. Click Save to save the settings.

The settings will be saved and broadcasting by the Controller broadcasting will be stopped, as per the configurations.

Changing Controller Discovery Port

  1. Navigate to Settings > General > Advance Settings.

  2. Search for setting Controller discovery port.

  3. Click Edit and set the port value as 39003 to enable controller broadcasting.

  4. Click the Save button to save the settings.

The settings should be saved, and broadcasting by the Controller should start, as per the configurations.

Note

  • Controller discovery must be enabled for this setting to work.

RDP Proxy Server Settings

The RDP Proxy Server in the HyWorks Controller provides the mechanism to connect to desktops or applications over the internet, where devices do not have direct access to desktops but can connect to the HyWorks Controller using its public IP address.

Stop/Start RDP Proxy Server

  1. Navigate to Settings > General > Advance Settings.

  2. Search for setting WAN RDP proxy control.

  3. Click Edit and set the value to True to enable the HyWorks Controller connection over WAN.

  4. Click the Save button to save the settings.

Now the users can connect to the application and desktop sessions using the HyWorks Controller proxy.

Note

  • The connections are done on the proxy port configured in Advance config.
  • This is not the recommended way for delivering applications/ desktop sessions over the internet, because of the following reasons:
    • It is not as secure as connections using HySecure.
    • It is not optimized for delivering sessions over the internet and users may face latency and delays in sessions.
    • On restart of the HyWorks controller service, all sessions will be disconnected.
  • As described above, while working over the internet, session delivery should be done using HySecure.
