Software Installation

Some tools and software are required for better performance when deploying an existing DVM in HyWorks. Depending on your requirements, you can install all or specific applications.

  1. Hypervisor Tools: These are required by Hypervisor tools, which means installing guest tools based on the Hypervisor where the VMs reside. HyWorks fetches some critical details (such as the network configurations of VMs, etc.) from Hypervisors directly, and these Hypervisor tools are required to enable that information.

    • VMware Tools: If you are using VMWare as the Session Provider, you must install VMware Tools on the DVMs (Desktop Virtual Machines) from the VMware ESXi/vCenter Server.

    • Nutanix Guest Tools: If you use Nutanix as the Session Provider, you must install Nutanix Guest Tools on the DVMs.

    • Hyper-V Integration Tools: If you are using DVMs from the Hyper-V, you must install Hyper-V Integration Tools on the DVMs.

  2. Feature-specific Tools: Must

    1. HyWorks DVM Agent: A critical HyWorks component must be installed on the DVMs to avoid manual RDP configurations and enable the DVM power policies.

    2. Built-In USB Redirection Driver (Server Component): Integrated with HyWorks Tools and must be installed on DVMs if USB redirection is required and a built-in USB Redirection Driver is used.

    3. Enhanced USB Redirection Driver (Server): It must be installed if it is used for USB redirection and separately on remote desktop servers.

    4. RDP8.0 Updates on Windows 7 DVMs: The performance of a remote session can be improved by using the RDP8 protocol for the session. To use the RDP8 protocol in the remote session, RDP8 patches must be installed and configured correctly. It must be installed if the following deployment configuration is used:

      1. Target DVM is on Windows 7 OS

      2. HyDesk devices are configured with the RDP8 Protocol.

      3. Connection profiles use the RDP8 optimized options such as graphics accelerations.

    5. Enable Audio and Audio Recording Devices
      Enable this setting if users are required to use audio and audio recording devices. To do so, appropriate settings must be configured on the target DVM. Refer to the Enabling Audio in Remote Session section for details.

  3. Performance Improvement Recommendation

    1. HyWorks USB Cleaner: Integrated in HyWorks Tools and must be installed if USB redirection is used. HyWorks USB Cleaner utility gracefully disconnects all the plugged-in USB devices, ensuring that these USB devices will be shared correctly in the next session.
    2. System Performance Improvements: System tweaks to improve the system’s overall performance to support a better remote session experience. Refer to the Customizations to Improve System Performance section for details.
    3. Hypervisor Settings: A few Hypervisor settings can also be modified to perform better. Refer to the Hypervisor Settings to Improve Performance section for details.
