Ubuntu Gold Master Preparation

This page describes the steps to prepare a Gold Master image for cloning Ubuntu server. Gold Master image can be used for deliveries of Virtual Ubuntu based desktops.

Following steps are involved to setup and configure Linux Server for desktop delivery.

Required Packages

Deployment of Linux based desktops will require following packages to be installed and configured:

  • Linux-based Dedicated Virtual Desktops

    1. Linux (Ubuntu-GNOME) ISO for OS Installation

    2. Offline Packages:

      • Having all dependency packages for HyWorks deployments

      • HyWorks DVM Tools for Linux

    3. Optional - HyWorks DVM Tools for Linux: If offline package does not contain latest HyWorks DVM Tools for Linux

Step#1: Getting Ubuntu OS

Required Linux VDI servers should be installed:

For Ubuntu-GNOME dedicated desktops: Download any of following xUbuntu ISOs form Ubuntu's official website:

Step#2: Ubuntu-GNOME Installation Process

For Linux dedicated VDI deployments, Ubuntu or CentOS can be installed as a VM on hypervisors supported by HyWorks. Follow the below given steps to install Ubuntu-GNOME ISO downloaded in Step 1 on any hypervisor:

  1. After booting the VM with installation media (Image downloaded in step 1), select option Install Ubuntu-GNOME

  2. Choose the language for the setup UI

  3. Do not change the default option in Preparing to install ubuntu screen

  4. Select Installation Type: Erase disk and install Ubuntu GNOME

  5. Select appropriate Time zone and Keyboard layout

  6. Provide user name, machine and password for Who are you?

  7. Once installation is complete restart the VM

  8. During VM reboot, once prompted remove media and press Enter and follow the onscreen instructions.

Step#3: Post OS-Installation Configurations

Step#4: Accops Offline Package Installation

Follow the steps provided in Accops Offline Package Installation for installing offline packages on the Ubuntu server.
