HyWorks Enhancements and Features

More Deployment Improvisations with VMware: Option to select multiple datastores for Linked Clones

  • Earlier versions of HyWorks allowed deploying Linked clones on a single datastore only; as a multi-datastore deployment, support for full clones was added in the last release of v3.4-SP1 Hotfix4.

  • With hotfix5, the admin can select multiple datastores when using VMware as a connector and Full or Linked Clone as the Clone type.

    • During each clone deployment, the system will intelligently choose the best datastore from the selected ones, distributing linked clones across multiple datastores.

Important

  • Multiple replica creation or multiple datastore support will not be available for replica deployment. Thus the administrator must ensure that the datastore selected for replica, is accessible to all the hosts on which linked clones are being placed.

Feature to Control Redistribution Behavior On Recompose

In previous versions, HyWorks was always redistributing the VMs on datastores and resources based on current usage on datastore. In hotfix5, the administrator will have control over redistribution with the following options provided in the Desktop Pool wizard:

  • Override server defaults of VM distribution: Selecting this option will enable the administrator to override the default mechanism of HyWorks to redistribute VMs with the following options:

  • Last known settings with fail-safe: Selecting this option will give priority to the previous deployment settings of the VM during recompose, but in cases when datastore or other objects are not available, then it will attempt to clone the next available resource to avoid failures. Please know this is not a guaranteed method but with some fail-safe mechanisms.

  • Strictly use last known settings without fail-safe: Selecting this option will strictly follow the previous deployment settings of the particular VM and will not attempt to deploy it anywhere else, even if the last used datastore or host is unavailable.

Feature to Download Logs of All Organizations

Hotfix5 will allow downloading logs of the entire organization to HyWorks super administrators or administrators having permission (to download logs from all organizations).

  • The option is added in the "Download Logs" prompt, where the administrator can choose to download logs of current organizations or all organizations.

  • The option is controlled using permissions and will be enabled for users with super administrator roles or having explicit permission to download logs from all organizations.
