Supported OS Versions

HyWorks supports various delivery mechanisms. This page lists the supported Platform / OS versions for each.

Pooled Virtual Applications

HyWorks can be used to virtualize and deliver applications to end users on both Windows and Linux platforms. Supported Windows and Linux servers (and versions) are listed here:

Windows - Pooled Apps

  • Windows Server 2025

  • Windows Server 2022

  • Windows Server 2019 (Essential edition - not supported)

  • Windows Server 2016

  • Windows 11/10 Multi-session (Only with AVD)

Note

Sometimes, multiple connections to Windows Server 2022 or Windows 2019 do not work. This can be resolved using the steps provided in the article HyWorks — 3.4 Webhelp > Knowledge Base Articles: Resolve Unable to Connect Multiple Users on Windows 2022.

Linux - Pooled Apps

Note

  • v4.0 RHEL Releases are not yet done. It is targeted to be released soon and made available as GA.
  • Ubuntu 24.04.0/1, 22.04.0/1 (Legacy Kernel)

  • XUbuntu 24.04.0/1, 22.04.0/1 (Legacy Kernel)

  • RHEL 9.4

Important

  • HyWorks only supports operating system versions with point 0/1 that use a non-HWE (Hardware Enablement) kernel. Versions with an HWE kernel are not supported.

  • Ensure that you install only versions with point 0/1. Installing any other version may lead to package or tool installation issues, resulting in failure to deliver applications or desktop environments.

Pooled Virtual Desktops

This is referred to as Shared Hosted Desktop (SHD). HyWorks can virtualize and deliver shared hosted desktops from Linux and Windows servers to end-users. Supported Windows and Linux servers (and versions) are listed here:

Windows - Pooled Desktops

  • Windows Server 2025

  • Windows Server 2022

  • Windows Server 2019 (Essential edition - not supported)

  • Windows Server 2016

  • Windows 11/10 Multi-session (Only with AVD)

Note

Important

Personal Virtual Desktops

This is also referred to as a Dedicated Desktop. HyWorks can be used to virtualize and deliver personal desktops to end-users. These personal virtual desktops can be Windows or Linux-based. Personal virtual desktop deliveries can be done from the following hypervisors:

  • VMware ESXi/vCenter Server 8.0, 7.0, 6.5, 6.0, 5.5

  • Microsoft Hyper-V 2025, 2022, 2019, 2016

  • Microsoft SCVMM - 2025, 2022, 2019, 2016

  • Nutanix Prism Element - AOS 7.0, AOS 6.10

  • Nutanix Prism Central - PC 7.5, PC 7.3, PC 2024.2.0.3

  • Proxmox - v9.1.5, v8.1.0

  • Red Hat OpenShift - v4.21.2, v4.20.15

  • HPE Morpheus - VM Essentials - v8.0.13

Note

  • Proxmox HCI is not supported.

  • In recent versions of Nutanix Prism Central, Recovery points are available as an alternative to Snapshots. HyWorks v4.0 now supports Recovery points with the latest Prism Centrals.

  • It is strongly recommended to use Prism Central for deployments. Nutanix is shifting toward managing through Prism Central and has officially announced that legacy APIs v0.8, v1, v2, and v3 will be deprecated in Q4 2026.   • The Nutanix versions specified here are only valid for HyWorks v4.0 or later. For compatibility with different versions of HyWorks and Nutanix, refer to the documentation for those specific versions.

HyWorks supports the following Linux and Windows desktop OSes as personal virtual desktops:

  • Windows 10

  • Windows Server 2025

Linux - Personal Desktops

Note

  • GNOME serves as the default desktop environment in Ubuntu.

  • HyWorks only supports the listed Linux distributions and OS versions; installing or using any other version or flavor may cause issues.

  • HyWorks only supports Operating System versions with a point 0 or 1 that use a non-HWE (Hardware Enablement) kernel; versions with the HWE kernel are not supported.

  • Ensure you install only version 0 or 1; installing any other version may cause package or tool installation issues, which could lead to app or desktop delivery failures.
