Software Installation

Some tools and software are required for better performance when deploying an existing DVM in HyWorks. Depending on your requirements, you can install all of them or only the ones you need.

  1. Hypervisor Tools: Install the guest tools corresponding to the hypervisor on which your DVMs reside. HyWorks fetches some critical details (such as the network configuration of VMs) directly from hypervisors, and these guest tools are required to make that information available.

    • VMware Tools: If you are using VMware as the Session Provider, you must install VMware Tools on the DVMs (Desktop Virtual Machines) from the VMware ESXi or vCenter Server.

    • Hyper-V Integration Tools: If you are using DVMs from Hyper-V, you must install Hyper-V Integration Tools on the DVMs.

    • Nutanix:

      • Nutanix guest tools are not mandatory and can be installed as per deployment requirements.

      • Installation of VirtIO drivers is required for storage and network identification and usage within the system and can be performed as per Nutanix recommendations.

  2. Feature-specific Tools:

    1. HyWorks DVM Agent: A critical HyWorks component that must be installed on the DVMs to avoid manual RDP configuration and to enable DVM power policies.

    2. Built-In USB Redirection Driver (Server Component): This driver is integrated with HyWorks Tools and must be installed on DVMs if USB redirection is required and the built-in USB Redirection Driver is used.

    3. Enhanced USB Redirection Driver (Server): This driver must be installed if Enhanced USB Redirection is used, and must also be installed separately on remote desktop servers.

    4. RDP8.0 Updates on Windows 7 DVMs: The performance of a remote session can be improved by using the RDP8 protocol for the session. To use the RDP8 protocol in the remote session, RDP8 patches must be installed and configured correctly. The patches must be installed if the following deployment configuration is used:

      1. The Target DVM is on Windows 7.

      2. HyDesk devices are configured with the RDP8 protocol.

      3. Connection profiles use RDP8-optimized options, such as graphics acceleration.

    5. Enable Audio and Audio Recording Devices: Enable this setting if users are required to use audio and audio recording devices. To do so, appropriate settings must be configured on the target DVM. Refer to the Enabling Audio in Remote Session section for details.

  3. Performance Improvement Recommendation

    1. HyWorks USB Cleaner: This utility is integrated with HyWorks Tools and must be installed if USB redirection is used. HyWorks USB Cleaner gracefully disconnects all plugged-in USB devices, ensuring they are shared correctly in the next session.

    2. System Performance Improvements: Apply system tweaks to enhance overall performance and improve the remote session experience. Refer to the Customizations to Improve System Performance section for details.

    3. Hypervisor Settings: A few settings can also be modified to improve performance. Refer to the Hypervisor Settings to Improve Performance section for details.
