License Types
The HyWorks Controller currently supports the following types of licenses:
-
Based on the License Duration
-
Default
-
Evaluation
-
Subscription
-
Perpetual
-
-
Based on the Licensing Attribute
-
Concurrent Session
-
Number of Registered Devices
-
Named User Licensing
-
HyLabs Function (HyLabs License Duration Type)
-
Software Maintenance (Maintenance)
-
Based on the License Duration
-
Default License: This is a license for 30 days for 10 devices and is provided by default with the HyWorks Controller setup. This can be used as a trial of the software. The default license is not extendable. Serial Keys are not required and are not displayed.
-
Evaluation License: The Evaluation license is a time-bound license and can be extended further. Contact the Accops Sales or Support team for obtaining an Evaluation license. It can be used for further evaluation of the the HyWorks Controller with more devices, users, desktops, etc.
-
Subscription License: The Subscription license is a time-bound license and can be extended further. Subscription licenses must be renewed before the expiry of the term. A grace period of 7 days is applicable once the subscription term has expired. After the grace period, complete functionality of the user access is blocked.
-
Perpetual License: Once the product is purchased by the customer, a Perpetual license will be provided, which does not expire with time and can be used perpetually. However, this does not necessarily make it eligible for downloading the latest versions or installation. The latest version of the HyWorks Controller might be made available with new licenses only, however, the old licenses will continue to work.
Grace Period: A grace period of 7 days is given for the default, evaluation and subscription licenses after their expiration date so that license expiration does not cause an immediate shutdown of HyWorks. However, after the grace period ends, the system will expire and neither the users nor the Administrator will be able to use HyWorks until an appropriate license is applied to the HyWorks Controller.
Grace period is not applicable to Perpetual licenses as they do not expire. However, in the event that the license file on the HyWorks Controller goes missing or is corrupted, the system will go into a grace period of 90 days to provide continuity to the running operations through the HyWorks Controller.
Based on the License Attribute
-
Concurrent Session Based Licenses
Session-based licenses will have restrictions over the number of sessions received with the HyWorks Controller. This means any number of devices can be configured with the HyWorks Controller, but concurrent sessions will only be allowed as per the license configuration. For example, a session-based license allowing 10 concurrent sessions will allow any number of devices to be connected to the HyWorks Controller but only 10 sessions will be allowed concurrently.
-
Named User Licenses
Licensing restrictions are based on total number of registered users. Once all licenses are consumed new users will not be allowed to login.
-
Number of Registered Devices
This type allows licenses based on the number of registered devices. It will limit the number of devices allowed as per the number configured in the license. For example, if the license is configured for 10 devices then an eleventh device will not be allowed to register.
-
HyLabs Feature
Enabling this attribute in the license allows the HyLabs feature to be used. HyLabs can work in trial/evaluation mode, subscription mode or perpetual mode. The number of units is controlled by the Concurrent/Named User/Registered Devices attribute of the license.
-
Maintenance This attribute shows if the software maintenance contract is active or inactive. The feature has a start date and an end date.
Impact on the HyWorks deployment after license expiry
If the system has already passed the default, evaluation or grace period, the license will expire. In cases where the HyWorks Controller expires:
-
The HyWorks Controller will stop communicating with the registered devices and nothing is accessible till the license is activated.
-
When the user logs on, a license expiry error will be displayed.
-
HyWorks Controller will continuously decline the client's request and may display many repetitive error messages depending on the connected devices.
-
The Management Console will be blocked except for access to the Dashboard and License Server sections in the Setup and Logs tab.
Applying the same License Keys on Multiple Servers
License keys in the HyWorks Controllers are tightly coupled with the hardware keys of the server machine. As such, once a serial key is used to activate a HyWorks Controller, the same key cannot be used with any other hardware.
Reactivating the HyWorks Controller with the same Serial Key
The HyWorks Controller can be activated multiple times with the same serial key but the license duration will remain the same.
